(2019) "If You Listen Close, You Can Hear the Loons" is the 1st mixed media drawing in my Campfire Stories Series. This piece is inspired by my own story: As a 7-year-old sitting around the campfire in our woods with my parents, I remember my mom saying, "If you listen close, you can hear the loons." At the time I didn't know a loon was a bird...I only knew the term to describe an insane person who was kept in an asylum. I distinctly felt unsettled thinking there were mad people wandering around somewhere in our woods, howling in the near distance.
